Climate Change Art Project

Using Art to Combat the Climate Crisis!

The rapid development of climate change–a fierce deviation from typical weather patterns–has already affected us in multiple ways, often resulting in increased temperatures, more intense storms, and natural disasters that bring chaos to communities around the world. Despite all these resulting problems, rates of emission have been steadily rising, resulting in a roughly 1C rise in global temperature since the late 1800s. Though this number may seem negligible, it has caused devastating effects worldwide, all of which pose great risk to both us and the environment.

To add onto this issue, manufacturers, a crucial contributor to the climate issue, are projected to increase their CO2 emissions by 17% between 2024 and 2050. Many companies aren’t taking the initiative to combat this crisis. But why do people choose to take a passive role? Many simply do not see the urgency in the matter– they believe the problem is impersonal and therefore neglect to address it. But there’s a method to provoke emotion: through art.

Art has been used countless times throughout history to bring awareness to a cause. For example, to shed light on excessive pollution, Muniz, a Brazilian artist, used unconventional items such as landfill to make people see the harm their garbage had on people who dealt with it. By zooming into the landfill’s effect on local people, highlighting their solemn expressions, Muniz made the problem personal. In fact, his work was able to spark a discussion about the environmental policies in Brazil and make a difference within his community.

This is exactly what our project aims to achieve with the issue of climate change.

Art is such a powerful tool in the world of activism; every piece can give a new perspective and greatly affect our approach on the issue.

To inspire others to take action, please make a piece of art, in any medium you choose, about your personal experience with or general topic of climate change! This can include drawings, paintings, collages, photographs, and any other creative form of expression. Along with your piece can be a personal narrative about how the issue has affected you or your community.

Artists of all ages and experience are welcome to vocalize their outlook on the issue. The project will be running from February to April 2025, so please make sure to get your piece in by the deadline. Any work submitted will be displayed in a digital gallery on the Linda Zhang Foundation website!
