Congratulations to Devisi Goel, a Horace Greeley senior, for winning the Linda J. Zhang Award for Writing Achievement. The award recognizes her special dedication and achievement in writing as showcased in the Young Writers Contest consistently over the years. Devisi is a gifted and passionate writer. She founded Poetry’s Purpose in her sophomore year and has used her writing talent to raise funds for charitable causes (see The Inside Press article).

Devisi received the award from Ms. Katherine Whymark, president of the Friends, at the annual Young Writers’ Contest Ceremony at the Chappaqua Library on June 1st, 2022. Mr. Rich Ma of the Young Writers’ Contest hosted the ceremony. Ms. Cathy Paulsen, head of Teen Services of the Chappaqua Library, introduced the Linda Zhang Award. She made a touching speech about Linda and her work at the Chappaqua Library. She also highlighted the teen gardening program (see Youtube video below). We thank Mr. Andrew Farber, director of the Chappaqua Library, for his support in hosting the award.

Linda J. Zhang Award for Writing Achievement was established by the Linda J. Zhang Memorial Foundation in 2021, in collaboration with the Young Writers Contest, the Friends and the Chappaqua Library, to honor the life and passion of Linda J. Zhang. This annual award consists of a cash prize to the winner and a matching donation by the foundation on the winner’s behalf to a charitable environmental organization selected by the winner. Linda J. Zhang Foundation will also showcase an environmental-themed writing piece by the winner.
