Introduction
Happy Valentine’s Day! While Valentine’s day is often about romantic love, we want to celebrate a different kind of love, the one between you and our planet.
In this edition of our newsletter, we’re thrilled to highlight an inspiring initiative led by high school junior Emma Tong, in collaboration with Linda J. Zhang Foundation. This project harnesses the power of art to raise awareness about climate change. We invite artists of all backgrounds to share their experiences and perspectives through creative expression.
Art has long been a catalyst for change, sparking conversations and inspiring action through its emotional and visual impact. By channeling creativity into advocacy, we can deepen our connection to the planet and encourage meaningful solutions.
This Valentine’s Day, let’s show our love for the Earth – through art, through action, and through the stories we share.
Project Rationale
The rapid development of climate change, a fierce deviation from typical weather patterns, has already affected us in multiple ways, often resulting in increased temperatures, more intense storms, and natural disasters that bring chaos to communities around the world. Despite all these resulting problems, rates of emission have been steadily rising, resulting in a roughly 1C rise in global temperature since the late 1800s. Though this number may seem negligible, it has caused devastating effects worldwide, all of which pose great risk to both us and the environment.
To add onto this issue, manufacturers, a crucial contributor to the climate issue, are projected to increase their CO2 emissions by 17% between 2024 and 2050. Many companies aren’t taking the initiative to combat this crisis. But why do people choose to take a passive role? Many simply do not see the urgency in the matter– they believe the problem is impersonal and therefore neglect to address it.
But there’s a method to provoke emotion: through art.
